The School of Education offers Graduate Diploma of Education courses in Early Childhood Studies, Primary and Secondary Education. From 2010, the courses will be offered in two modes:1. On-campus mode
This structure includes lectures and tutorials on campus and a coordinated program of professional practice completed full-time in schools. Domestic applicants seeking entry to this mode must make a late application direct to ECU from 11 November 2009. 2. ECU’s new residency mode
A new initiative by ECU, this structure is offered through Mount Lawley and Joondalup campuses only. The residency mode includes both university and school-based study with residents (students) gaining extensive practical experience in residency schools throughout the year.This integrated approach is delivered on-campus and in residency schools with a high level of collegial and on-line support. Students completing the course by residency mode will begin their studies with an intensive two weeks on campus in mid-January. They will then spend a number of days a week in schools under the mentorship of experienced teachers, and other days on campus from the start of the school year. Student’s study experiences will also be complemented by blocks of assessed professional practice which will be completed full-time in schools.

Graduate Diploma of Education (Residency Mode) 2010 Intake
Future applicants seeking entry to the Residency Mode course will need to meet the same minimum requirements as those seeking entry to the on-campus course; however, applicants will also be required to attend an interview and take part in a school-based selection activity.
If you are applying to study the Graduate Diploma of Education (Residency Mode), you must submit the following directly to ECU:
- Application for Graduate Diploma in Education (Residency Mode), ensuring all relevant information is provided, including statistical details, and you have signed the declaration.
- A one page personal statement on why you wish to become a teacher. The statement must be signed and have the following declaration: "I declare that this statement is my own work, and truthfully addresses the requested criteria. I understand that my enrolment may be cancelled, and my academic record annotated accordingly, if it is proved that I was offered a place based on false or misleading evidence."
- Certified copies of any qualifications you have obtained (unless gained at ECU)
- Certified copies of your marriage certificate/change of name if any of the qualifications are in a different name to your current name
- A certified copy of your Australian passport, Australian visa, or citizenship papers if you were born outside Australia
- Proof of English competency, if your secondary education and undergraduate degree were NOT completed in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States of America. Refer to the application form for further details.
Once your application has been processed, you will be contacted to arrange your interview and school-based activity, and later advised of the outcome. If successful, you will receive a Letter of Offer with further information on how to commence the course with ECU. Unsuccessful applicants may be eligible for the on campus course and will be advised of this.
