PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
The University Preparation Course (Education Assistant Program) is an enabling program that provides an alternative entry pathway to selected undergraduate teaching degrees at ECU. The course will enable education assistants to effectively support teachers and students in a primary or secondary school setting.

The UPC (EAP) is suitable for education assistants with experience, those contemplating working as education assistants, and those wishing to pursue further studies in teaching. Completion of the course provides students with eligibility for employment as education assistants in schools. It also prepares students for university-level study by teaching the required skills for academic success, with an emphasis on the student becoming an independent learner.

The course is FREE for Australian citizens and holders of permanent humanitarian visas - it is fully funded for these students by the Federal government because it is a university pathway. The UPC (EAP) is available to permanent residents and New Zealand citizens as a fee-paying course.

Students who complete this 60 credit point course are eligible to apply for entry into most ECU Bachelors of Education and may receive 15 credit points (1 unit) of advanced standing, depending on the course.

Course Structure

There are four units in the course:
The course is classed as part-time and it runs on weekends at the Joondalup campus. Students attend classes from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday on designated weeks. The frequency of these classes is determined by whether the student chooses to complete the course in six months or 12 months.

From mid 2010 ECU will offer a second University Preparation Course; Education Assistant Program with a focus on working with children with special needs. Please register your interest and we will send you updates as more information becomes available.

The new course will be based at the Mount Lawley campus and also run on weekends. Like the current course it will be 4 units that can be studied over either 6 or 12 months.

The new course will also be FREE for Australian citizens and holders of permanent humanitarian visas - it is fully funded for these students by the Federal government because it is a university pathway. The UPC (EAP) is available to permanent residents and New Zealand citizens as a fee-paying course.
